I'm still geting mid to upper 40s with 42k miles on the bike now. I'm
wondering if the mileage decrease is due to old or worn carb float
needles and//or main jet needle.

On the electrical ghosts issue; Had you recently washed the bike or
ridden in rain. Sometimes after washing or rain riding my neutral and
oil pressure light will glow dimly; its a common thing in GPz and
Connies; something to do with water infiltrating the switches. +1 on
getting to that cluster socket. I would also be opening up the switch
pods on the handlebar give it a good douching with contact cleaner.

It's a pain to pull the tank and plastic off, but that's what's needed to get at the cluster wiring. Check for corrosion or bad connections.
