Carb cleaning

I removed my carbs today to check the float level and thought that while they are out I will clean them real good as well. I also got to thinking that it might be good to replace the main jet and needle too since I assume the originals are still in there. What do you think? Do jets and needles wear out over time? Is there anything else I should do while I have them apart?
