A little satire..(true story) Message-ID: Today I sold my GPZ. It has been a sad day... I bought her new in 1995 at Sindt Honda in Dubuque, IA for $7999.00 and 24 years later I sold her to Al's Powersports in Victoria, MN for $1350. She lived with me in Iowa and at one point she had to spend an entire winter outdoors because we had no garage. She moved up to Minnesota with me in the back of a semi, and finally found a home in my garage in 1997. We rode together when the weather was nice... very rarely in the rain or cold. I added a few things to her throughout the years - handlebar & mirror extensions, Corbin seat, taller windscreen, Throttle-meister, etc. We took a long ride in 2004 to attend a "family reunion" at the Durango Fandango and she performed like a champ. She NEVER touched the pavement, ever. She was a very reliable and comfortable bike - almost like when you are with your best friend. But this spring something changed. Something was different. I could tell right away when I took the cover off her that something wasn't right. I tried and tried but nothing seemed to work. The ole girl wasn't running - she never came back to life after the long winter sleep in here in Minnesota. I tried to resuscitate her, but unfortunately I just wasn't willing to throw more money into keeping her alive. So I made a call to a dealer that had offered to buy her back in 2017. He drove up this afternoon and trailered her away. Today I sold my GPZ. It has been a sad day... After a lot of back and forth the past couple of years I've decided I will keep mine long term. Other than a somewhat sticky throttle that has bothered me for years, the old girl still runs and drives great. It's not nearly as pretty as it once was, but it's mine and with a salvage title, thanks to a hit and run driver years ago, its worth nothing to anyone but me. This spring she gets a new battery, new chain and sprockets, rebuilt rear suspension and a Koni rear shock. I would like to find a $1,000 GPZ somewhere to use for spare parts as I have started collecting them again since many parts are NLA. Once life settles down and I find a new job, I will look into letting my BMW F800GT go and will likely replace it with a Concours 14, But then again, I might just ride the GPZ and spend the money on a Supercharger or a Coyote 5.0 motor for my Mustang GT, who knows.
