2019 Maintenance and Riding

Hi Ped:

It's good to hear that your Geeper is still going strong, as is mine, although my beloved red ‘95 has a mere 125,00 Kms. on her and she still feels like almost new... not at all like her owner!

Regarding your "overheating" issue, check the fuse and if it is blown check the fan for free rotation. Sometimes the cowling will move and stall the fan, which in turn blows the fuse and results in the overheating as you have described… worth a look and very easy to fix.

I wish I had the fortitude to do the touring that you did in 2018 and the planned trips for this year. My body won’t cooperate with extended trips anymore and I need a lot of breaks to iron out the kinks…. This getting old has nothing to recommend it.

Take Good Care,

Yes, the list has certainly been very quiet for a long time...

For me 2018 was a good year in all aspects. I finally retired for good

and have more time to ride now. In 2018 the Geeper added another 13.000

km (8.000 miles) to the odo and is now at 208.000 km (129.000 miles) -

and still going strong. I keep listening for sounds and signs of wear

but there doesn't seem to be any, other than the low end torque is not

what it used to be. But it still runs smooth and quiet. This winters

maintenance will include chain and sprockets, valve check, new spark

plugs, air filter cleaning and lubrication. I also need to look through

the cooling system as it tends to get hot and the fan kicks in quite

quickly if traffic is slow or comes to a halt, even in autumn

temperatures. The thermostat was replaced last year and I can't quite

figure out why it still gets hot. Other than that, there are no signs

why I shouldn't expect a trouble free 2019.

Among places visited in 2018 were Prague, Amsterdam, Austria, several

locations in Germany as well as around most of Denmark. Planned for 2019

are Luxembourg, Germany, Northern Italy, possibly Austria and maybe the

Pyrenees. Looking forward to all of them :)
