Click on the Tools menu and you will see the drop down list all the tools and their associated keyboard shortcuts. For instance, when a route is selected, type I to get into Insert tool mode.

These tools can also be found in the BaseCamp toolbar, but only if the program has been configured to display them. Not sure what the default toolbar consists of out of the box.
