I got the shim refill kit yesterday and basically started the valve
adjust from scratch with a fresh perspective and a positive outlook.I
had such a frustrating experience struggling with this job the other
night that this time I even resorted to prayer (you atheists might
substitute meditation or focusing on positive thoughts). Amazing how
those shims just seemed to fall right into place. I used grease on my
finger or thumb (and then finished the seating with a screwdriver) for
most of them and tried using grease on a bent feeler gauge for a
couple; that worked well also.
All valves are now in the mid- or loose end of spec. Ahhhh..... good
for another 12K miles LOL.
Now I just need to install the new chain and sprockets, sync the
carbs, install new fork seals/oil, lube/adjust the steering head
bearings, install new shock and storz bar conversion, etc., etc.,
etc..e t.a.s.d.sdf.as.df.as......
