which way do the fork seals go on?

GPZ1100 1996... the seals have a little lip on one side and a groove with a
spring on the other side. I assume the groove with the spring, which appears
flat, goes down against the spacer/washer and the lip goes up... anyone know
for sure?  I don't want to screw up the forks again. This is my last
attempt; if I can't get it right I'm about ready to ride this bike off a
cliff!@#$@#W$%@#$%!!!@@!@
