Mike,

Be careful.  Boiling dry is a sign that your VR is bad.  Same thing happened 
to me last summer on my XS650.  Sure enough, the VR was not regulating. 
Might want to do a voltage check to make sure its clipping at 14.5V (or 
whatever the spec is in the manual).
