Summer trips

Sounds good Chuck,
I need to give you a call and discuss finding your house/horse property.
I'm not sure I could find it again after four years, though I sorta
remember the property.
I've done most of my route planning and have decided to try to make it to
Alaska in about 3 1/2 days. It will mean averaging close to 400 mile days,
every day and one of 650. If I can do this though, I'll be able to take my
time coming back and relax over a nine day period. The worst day will be
on the way up, 400 miles in the car and 250 on the bike. The second worst
day would be about 450 on the bike, but would be through Banff National
park and a that scenic area called Kananaskis, which is in the edge of the
Rocky mountains before you get to Banff. I rode both of these previously,
so I won't be stopping much along the way. I've mapped a couple of Harley
shops along the way as knowing where these shops are gives me a place to
potentially go if I break down somewhere.
I've bought a Bike Master emergency tire repair kit, just in case, and will
take a small electric tire pump that runs off my cigarette lighter
adapter. I've also hit REI, the outdoor sports place and bought a couple
of nice long sleeve under garments to wear under my jacket. Last trip, I
took my summer mesh jacket, but won't make that mistake this time as I'm
taking my heavier jacket and liner. I've got extra tools packed and a
spare throttle cable since I'm sure there wouldn't be another one of those
within 1,000 miles. I'm also going to stay in organized campgrounds because
of the bear population up there. In Lake Louise, the tent/soft side camper
area is surrounded by a high electric fence and barbed wire because of the
bears. Since I don't want to be a bears meal, I'll plan of playing it
safe, LOL!
I've got to put a new deck on my motorcycle trailer tomorrow since the old
boards are too rotten to trust anymore and then it's just a matter of
packing everything up and heading out two weeks from today. I've got
myself psyched to expect lots of rain and cold, so anything else will be a
pleasant surprise.
