Running like crap

I agree with Daniel. This is a habit I've had for many, many years,
Whenever the GPZ has been sitting in the garage for several weeks I
always drain the float bowls before cranking the engine. Even with the
fuel filter installed I keep getting surprised of how much crap can
actually accumulate in the bowls. I think this habit has saved me from a
lot of trouble. Except for one occurrence when it was brand new and the
fuel filter not yet installed, I have never ever had any carb problems,
and I have never had them off. And the GPZ has run over 169.000 km
(105.000 miles).

I'll check the ignition but I think it's related to the carbs. Has anyone ever tried riding with a failed diaphragm in one of the carbs? What about a failed float, possibly flooding one cylinder? I didn't ride much last year but I pulled the carbs and cleaned them out real well in 2013. The bike was running well last year and I laid it up with non-ethanol gas and fuel stabilizer last fall. I also started it and warmed it up twice over the winter.
