Subject: Saying bye to summer..

Hello friends, I did not yet bring the GPZ to the mechanic (I think it'll
happen in winter..) but took the Africa Twin to the celebration we had with
the university (I finished a bachelor in law this february, going for the
master now). A fellow student had invited us to stay with her and her
family in the alps to celebrate and so I took off this morning at 7°C to go
home.
I had the choice between going back the way I came (motorway) or take a
chance with the Grimselpass. It snowed during the night and the warnings
for snow and icy roads were on.
I was not very positive but just before the summer I saw a family of three
on three bikes from Luxembourg and asked them how the conditions were -
snow, they said, but the road is clear.
Off I went, just to get into an hour of rain on the north side of the alps.
Wet, frozen but happy I made it to Murten and went sailing on the afternoon
- talk about a full program ;)

Great picture Alex!  I've ridden in snow like that and it wasn't very fun.

I did some freshening up of the GPZ this summer, rebuilt the rear
suspension, installed a new battery, my Koni shock, and rebuilt the shift
linkage which was badly need plus some other odds and ends.  Sadly, I was
working in Flagstaff AZ for much of the summer so my riding season was
pretty short though I did ride my BMW F800GT to the New Mexico BMW rally in
Taos this last weekend and rode some great roads.  I plan on a tank swap
this winter to a better one with a new petcock and will take another look
at the chain and sprockets as I have a new set waiting.  Though I still
have good rubber left on my Pilot Road 2's, I may go pick up a set of the
Pilot Road 4's and put them on my other set of rims as I'm not sure the
Pilot Road 5's are going to be as good as the 4's or the 2's.

At 90,000 miles this year I turned into a fair weather rider when it was too hot. I tried a K&L petcock repair kit that only sort of worked. So, I put an in-line shut-off from Motion Pro on in case the petcock acts up. What type of new petcock are you going with? I got a valve cover gasket and the other gaskets as I have an oil leak and I need to check my valves. I just can't seem to get to it. I'm going to the KTM rally in Breckenridge this weekend on the dual-sport. I'll have to do a fall ride in the Rockies on the GPZ as I love the cool temperatures and bright colors.

I'm just going to install a new ZRX1200 petcock.  My existing one works
fine, but is getting older.  The original ones had a defective o-ring that
was corrected in the ZRX petcocks.

Wife and I on circle tour from Venezia on RedGpz. Rovinj, Plitvice Lakes, Dugi Rat, Dubrovnik, Bari, Alberobello, Amalfi, Pompeii, Rome, Rimini MotoGP. Moto running great, no snow, Croatian roads fun very good.
Amalfi coast max 50kph avg speed, Pompeii-Rome autostrada 130-140 kph.
Added Wilbers fork springs and rear shock, max rates for two up loaded touring. Better than clapped out stock 23 yr old suspension.
Love to hear all your stories, input.
Met many BMW riders waiting for Dubrovnik-Bari ferry. Also one young SKorean on Honda SuperCub doing East Russia-Madrid transcontinental ride solo.
Charles, will there be one more Fandango in Durango?

I'm just going to install a new ZRX1200 petcock.  My existing one works
fine, but is getting older.  The original ones had a defective o-ring that

Wife and I on circle tour from Venezia on RedGpz. Rovinj, Plitvice Lakes, Dugi Rat, Dubrovnik, Bari, Alberobello, Amalfi, Pompeii, Rome, Rimini MotoGP. Moto running great, no snow, Croatian roads fun very good.
Amalfi coast max 50kph avg speed, Pompeii-Rome autostrada 130-140 kph.
Added Wilbers fork springs and rear shock, max rates for two up loaded touring. Better than clapped out stock 23 yr old suspension.
Love to hear all your stories, input.
Met many BMW riders waiting for Dubrovnik-Bari ferry. Also one young SKorean on Honda SuperCub doing East Russia-Madrid transcontinental ride solo.
Charles, will there be one more Fandango in Durango?

Sounds like a great Ride Art. I did some of those roads on 4 wheels 2 years ago  - some great scenery but it was mid summer and hot as hell quite honestly it was nice to get back into an air conditioned box..    I haven t seen the Amalfi coast yet but its on my bucket list.,

Dynojet installations.

My GPZ has gotten to where it's not running cleanly at low RPM's and is
getting harder to start.  It has a brand new battery so that is not the
issue.  In addition, my throttle has been slow to return for years, but has
now also gotten harder to turn.  I have had the handlebar assembly apart
and found nothing so I'm pretty sure the issue is with the carb linkage
sticking.  All of this has made me decide to do a thorough carb clean this
winter and to correct the throttle issues.  I will also replace the rubbers
between the airbox and carbs with new, softer ones as they are still
available.

My question for the group is this.  Back in the day when everyone was
installing these kits, I remember the consensus was to use the stock carb
springs, not the ones in the Dynojet kit.  I seem to remember the throttle
response was supposed to be better down low with the stock springs.  Can
someone refresh my memory on this? I am pretty sure mine has the Dynojet
springs as the kit was installed by Donnie at Performance Cycle back when
he still had a repair shop.  Unfortunately, the OEM springs are NLA, so I
will have to see if I can find a set somewhere if that is the case.

Yes! I went with a Factory Pro jet kit because everyone said the springs were a waste and would often cause the engine to bog under early throttle.

Sounds to me that a carb clean and cable adjustment is now due.
