From marcl at micapeak.com Sun Feb 2 13:27:40 2020 From: marcl at micapeak.com (Marc Lewis) Date: Sun, 2 Feb 2020 13:27:40 -0800 (PST) Subject: 2020 micapeak.com Pledge Drive Message-ID: <20200202212740.61D0FFAC77@lists.micapeak.com> Once each year we remind folks how they can send gifts for the upkeep of micapeak.com, which powers this mailing list, assorted Web sites and other services. It's that time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gifts (in US dollars) can be made in two ways. The PREFERRED WAY is to use PayPal. Log into https://www.paypal.com/ and click the 'Send & Request' link at the top of your account summary page. In the white text box type: "marcl at micapeak.com" and click the 'Next' button. When PayPal asks 'What's this payment for?' click 'Sending to a friend', since you'll be making a donation, not buying anything. On the next page, fill in an amount and add an optional note if you wish. Click 'Continue' to finish up. We do prefer US dollars, but other currencies work too. That's it! And thanks in advance... The far LESS-desirable method is to send a check in $USD payable to "H M LEWIS" (not "micapeak", the bank doesn't like that) to: H M Lewis 4923 S Bellaire Ln Veradale, WA 99037-8220 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's the request. For most of you, this note is a familiar reminder. You know what to do, or not do, and you need read no further. The collection of domains (micapeak.com, wetleather.com, FJR1300.info, gpdndg.com, and a dozen other sites) and mailing lists which we collectively call "micapeak" is running well, thanks mostly to Carl's mailing list wizardry. We're still sending over one million e-mail messages every month connecting motorcyclists. 2020 marks the 25th year we've been doing this. So far, so good. :-) Carl and I know that some of the folks for whom this mailing list is an important part of daily life would like to show their appreciation with a modest gift. We encourage you to think about how much time you spend each day following this list, or using micapeak's other resources. If it seems worthwhile to you, consider making a gift in proportion. We renew our long-standing commitment to keep micapeak.com, et al, running and free of charge, no matter what. There is no obligation for you to send anything, and you'll continue to get the email and Webpages we serve for free. But all small gifts are appreciated, and larger ones in proportion :-) Thanks in advance! --HMarc & Carl SPECIAL NOTE: Let's not make this a topic of discussion on the mailing list, OK? Send us a gift or don't, as it suits you, but we have neither the time nor the energy to discuss the subject further than what you see above. And we're sure your fellow subscribers would rather not have the list itself cluttered with more than this notice on the subject. Thanks! (BTW -- I'll post this message just once more in a couple weeks). I really enjoyed the Multistrada I rode Tail of the Dragon on last Thanksgiving and since I was wanting something more powerful than the BMW and am thinking about another Alaska trip, it was time to pull the trigger. Email me if anyone knows anyone interested. It's also listed on eBay for pics and write up. It's a great little bike, but I don't have time or space for it. As for GPZ content, I just got my GPZ back from a visit to the shop for a thorough carb clean and rebuild along with a couple of other minor fixes. The old gal is running as it should once again and I am looking forward to spring to get some riding in. I rebuilt the rear suspension last summer and have a few things I want to do this year. Former lister Scott Snipas has offered me some left over parts from his old GPZ so I will be adding a few more parts to the inventory. Definitely going to keep her long term and enjoy it. Only 26 more days until spring!! I’m not surprised, as the content was shrinking. My wife had been renewing my subscription through amazon until last year but I’m paid up through June 2021, so I’ve asked for some money back. I was shocked to learn that renewal through amazon was only $20 per year, but it explains why they went belly up. I don’t think there was any magazine I ever liked better, except for Cycle back in the Gordon Jennings/Cooke Neilson days. I rebuilt the rear shock linkages last summer and installed my refreshed Koni shock on it since I don't see myself doing much more touring on it now that I have the Ducati. The OEM shock is far easier to adjust than the Koni when going from heavily loaded to unloaded on a trip, but isn't as good for everyday riding as the Koni. I could easily store the BMW for a while if someone was interested. It is an excellent canyon carver, I had to take off the foot peg lowering kit that was on it when I bought it, as I kept dragging the pegs all over. I can still get there with the stock pegs, which are lower than those on the GPZ. Charles S. Can confirm, works the treat.  Seems brighter to me from the saddle and other drivers are VERY responsive to it. I did have to take care of aiming it because when I put it in initially it was way too high.I actually have a spare from the set if you would like it.Don in LovelandSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone -------- Original message --------From: Charles Scappaticci Date: 2/27/20 2:30 PM (GMT-07:00) To: Don Wilcox Subject: Headlights Has anyone on the list installed an LED headlight bulb?I recently put LED's in my Mustang GT's headlights and fig lamps and theyare amazingly bright, and was wondering if I could do the same to the GPZwithout melting the headlight wiring harness.Charles S.______________________________________________________________________GENERAL GPZList MAILING LIST INFORMATION:This is from the GPZList mailing list.
