 Sad to say I sold my Geeper a couple of months back.. I screwed up my left shoulder and it was getting too heavy for me, plus it needed work and at this time in my life I'd rather spend time doing other things than wrenching.

Hey gang:

Getting the bike back up a running after too much time idle (the bike, sadly, not me!).
(Micron w/DynoJet Stage 1 jet kit, Muzzy block off plates, stock air box)

Wasn't catching.  So cleaned the carbs and no joy.
Double checked battery - full charge, no voltage drops not under load, good condition.
Checked resistance on the plug caps - 4.5-5.5
Pulled the plugs - carbon black.

Swapped the plugs.
4 new CR9EK plugs later, ticking over with full choke, but wouldn't take throttle.

Checked for spark (old plug on cap, resting on engine, turn it over: spark!  Tested the other three - same)

Adjusted the pilots 1/8 turn left - worse
Adjusted the pilots 1/4 turn right - better

Pulled plugs - they look good, not wet.

So now I'm going to screw them all the way in and start from two turns out and adjust to get to a good idle.

Got me musing about hotter plugs (CR8EK):  when would you need to/why would you want to run a hotter spark plug?

The OEM filter was still available last time I looked.  There are also
replacement filters on eBay for the GPZ, I bought one and it seems to be
well made.

For years I had this mystery oil leak. I couldn’t find it, and my mechanic friend couldn’t either. Up until recently. He dropped some dye in there and hit it with a UV light. It was coming form the water pump. The shaft had worn away. He replaced the water pump for me and no more oil smell for the first time in years. I rtook it on a short 20 mile ride tonight and it was perfect.

 Just some replacement header gaskets - #1 worked itself loose somehow and torqueing to spec' didn't resolve it, so time to replace the seals.
Need to get it running well enough for inspection at Joe's in Broomall. May have them do the fine tuning if I can't get it running smoothly.

Side question for you - is your air cleaner box cover losing its seal? The foam's mostly gone on mine and the plastic cover is slightly warped. Not sure if/how bad that is, so I may just electrical tape it in place.

Now if it's new bikes your talking...I could go for this R 1250 RS when the lotto pays out!

The water pump shaft had worn away? Wow, is it plastic? I wonder if this abnormal wear is associated with silicates in the antifreeze? 

Just curious... how many miles on your bike currently, and at what mileage did you start to smell oil?

Two years ago I found there was nothing left of my air filter element. I replaced it and it was fine. I do not know about the rubber seals. I haven’t looked at it in two years.

 I was never able to find mine although I never really took off of the plastic to find it. It used to drip on to the exhaust and create a smoke screen for the guys following me.. :-)
I know the shifter shaft and balance shaft can be other culprits.

Coincidentally, I also repaired an oil leak last winter. However, mine was on the right side and turned out to the crankshaft counter balancer adjuster shaft seal. New seal and presto, no more oil dripping from the inside of the lowers.

I've done the seal behind the front sprocket once and the shifter shaft
seal twice, no leaks with 72K on the odometer.
