It now has just under 40K miles and in all that time I have only had to pull the carb rack twice to clear the pilots. I'm religious about using StaBil fuel additive in every tankful (except for multi-day rides of course) and attribute this practice to keeping my carb woes to a minimum in the GPz (for 26 years), as well as in all my other vintage Japanese motorcycles. For me, the throttle cables were not the most annoying issue when replacing the carb. Rather, it was getting the two inside (#2 & #3) rubber airbox boots and their circular spring retainers back onto the carb throats. Now THAT was a PIA! I’ve kept the bike for all these years knowing that I won’t get much for it. I like the idea of getting my money’s worth out of. I bought it for $6,200 way back in 1998. Now it just gets in the way of my other garage stuff and sits. I think it knows I’m going to let her go as when I ran it two days ago a float stuck open. I’ll end up pulling the carbs and boiling them out in my ultrasonic cleaner then rebuilding. Done that enough times now. Biggest pain is getting the throttle cables back on. Sounds like I’d be doing OK if I get $1,500 out of it. Once the kids are out of school maybe I’ll pick up another ride as I’m sure I’ll have regrets. Christian Hutter Coopersburg, PA
