Charles,

I'm a local to Northern VA. Sadly my GPz was totaled in 2014 after 19 years and 93K of ownership, but I used to ride in the area quite a bit, and still drive it in my Mercedes SLK on occasion and still keep this subscription active to see how the great community here is doing.

If you're in the area and want a great ride in the Shenandoah area, two recommendations:

1) Thornton Gap - 211 West from Sperryville, VA to Luray, VA. It crosses the Skyline Drive and has an entrance to Skyline Drive. I don't know if you're planning to do Skyline - it's kind of boring because it's so slow, especially after spending a few days on the spectacular Blue Ridge Parkway. If you're doing Skyline, stop at Sperryville for lunch then you can blast up Thornton Gap to get back on the drive.

2) Fort Valley Road from Luray to Front Royal. My single favorite ride in the area. There's a great little overlook at the bottom of the valley that offers a great view of the west branch Shennandoah valley and Skyline Drive/Shenandoah National Park. This route is parallel to the northern section of Skyline Drive and is a 100000% better ride than Skyline drive.

Enjoy!
