The NX250 is the last bike I would get rid of. It is the ultimate compromise machine. John – the side panels can be shelved during the learning curve.

Hi Steve,
I agree! The NX will keep up where most smaller (older) bikes don’t, it’s nice and light, easy to pick up, bulletproof, cool looking… just a bit short for the taller folks though. Needs a corbin, or anything but stock, for long trips too.
Tracy

And John,
I’m fine with selling the white NX for Alex. It was registered and running a couple of summers ago. I think it would need some brake work and a carb clean (if you want to have a winter project for the two of you). It’s time to clean out some of the less used bikes I think.

  Greetings,
I have been watching from the shadows till now. But the discussion of the NX250 got my attention.
  So, my two cents:

I have two NXs at home and ride them often (when I'm home) and love them. I spent the summers of 2011, 12 and 13 touring EU on an NX250. I have a friend in Amsterdam that I borrow from and he comes to Colorado to borrow from me.

I left Colorado in Sept of 2015 and toured down to Ushuaia then back up to Bueno Aires where I sold it.

I left Amsterdam this past July on an NX250 and crossed to Morocco in August. I am currently in Ivory Coast. I hope to make it to Cape Town then back up to Cairo on the east coast. Wish me luck.

The NX is a versatile bike. I like it for many reasons. It is simple, lightweight and just powerful enough and I can pick it up by myself.

Since he will be starting out, I need to find a ride for him that has body panels available. That kind of nixes the NX > : - (

XT250? it's a play bike. 18 HP, will not go on the highway but pretty toothless. Maybe that's good.

A CRF250X is a more woods friendly bike but not full race. They can be plated but it woods biased. (no passenger pegs). Around $2200 used.
KLX250s. To me this is a real middle of the road DS bike. Actually it's pretty good at everything.

All Dual Sportieness comes down to tire choice.

Yeah, plated. Ken's old bike. Too cheap not to get. I am selling the CB-1. So, I will have the Hawk GT, the CRF and the TA, which I think is near perfect.

The CRF and the Hawk are tiny anyhow. That matters a lot.
