Yet, as with many events in 2020, our Appalachian Fundraiser Ride & 10 Year Anniversary Party in May had to be cancelled. Looking for the silver lining, we decided to take the party to the greater BDR Community with this live video broadcast. Come join us for this *Legendary Night* to celebrate the organization's history, and hear from some of the volunteers who made the BDR happen over the last 10 years. *On October 22nd, take a ride down BDR memory lane, and join BDR Friends & Family for a special YouTube Live Broadcast, from 5 pm to 7 pm (Pacific).* ------------------------------ *The evening will feature * - Live appearances from BDR founders, board members, friends and benefactors - Back stories from the expeditions you won’t want to miss - Never-seen-before bloopers from the video vault - Previews of our 2021 film: BDR – A 10 Year Retrospective - Fundraising opportunities throughout the event *Topics Covered* - Humble beginnings of BDR - Creation of the BDR formula - Evolution of the BDR mission - People who’ve helped make it happen - Ladies of BDR - Economic impact of BDR tourism - Access, advocacy & education - Making the BDR brand a household name - Future of the BDR ------------------------------ *Tune in on Thursday, October 22 5 pm - 7 pm (Pacific)* *www.YouTube.com/RideBDR * *Congratulations to the BDR Bike Sweepstakes Winner!* Kristian Meyers of Palo Alto, CA was the winner of the Special BDR Edition KTM 790 Adventure R. Kristian came to Seattle to pick up his prize, and put the bike to the test by riding it home on a 3-day trip. Kristian's ride kicked off with hazy views of Mt. Ranier, as he made way through WABDR Section 1, crossed the Columbia River at the “Bridge of the Gods,” and made his way to the start of the original OBCDR Route 3. That night at camp Kristian discovered that the cans of the Oregon Pinot Noir he stashed in his panniers earlier in the day, have exploded. Left with a few damp items to dry out, including the bike's title, he mourned the death of the Owner’s Manual, which soaked up most of the wine, and was not recoverable. Ouch! Kristian crossed the OR-CA border in the ‘middle of nowhere,” (the best way!), and as the smoke from the fires in WA and CA was getting heavy, he camped his final night at the foot of Mt. Shasta at 6,500 ft. Final morning he continued on the Lost Coast dualsport track, which runs almost all the way down to Ft. Bragg, and made it safely home. *"What an amazing piece of technology the KTM790 Adventure R is, especially for someone who has been riding an '08 690! I can’t express how amazing the WP XPLOR PRO Suspension with Cone-valve Forks is. I’ve never felt this on a stock bike or even after having professional suspension work done on my other bikes."* Read Kristian's full story here . BDR thanks everyone who've participated in the BDR Bike Sweepstakes this year, including the sponsors of this project: *KTM North America, Touratech, KLIM, Cyclops Adventure Lights, CruzTOOLS, **MoskoMoto, Butler Maps *and* Doubletake Mirror*. ### Backcountry Discovery Routes® (BDR®) is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that creates off-highway routes for adventure and dual-sport motorcycle travel. Today I was on a ride , when the engine started to stutter --again. This had happened before, but it always recovered. Fiddling with the fuel petcock ( ON /RES ) had helped in the past. I thought I might have a partial blockage in the petcock and had planned to take it apart-- as soon as practical (= an almost empty tank.) This time fiddling did not help. I rolled to a stop. Long story short: the vacuum hose to the carb had a small tear (= air leak ) very close to one end , thus intermittently shutting off the fuel ! I cut off the end (about 10mm) Luckily--the hose was still long enough to function.
