[BaseCamp] Way Point limitations Question

As a follow up to the more than 29 WPs question I have tried the following:

Deleted all routes, tracks and favorites on the BMW Nav V
Connected the BMW Nav V to the Mac
Copied the GPX folder to a memory stick (as a back up)
Deleted the GPX folder
Emptied the Trash
Double checked the disconnected Nav V to make sure there are no routes, tracks and favorites
Restarted the computer
Launched BC
Connected the Nav V
Selected a route with more than 29 WPs and changed all of them (except the first and last) to “Don’t Alert”, i.e., shaping points
Uploaded that route to the Nav V
Uploaded another route with more than 29 WPs to the Nav V (the WPs were left as WPs)
Both uploads prompted me with: "the routes have been created with another map not installed on this computer” "Recalculate Yes or No” I selected Yes (this is still a mystery to me as the map versions used to create the routes is the same version as is installed on my computer, with the exception that the original created routes were on a Windows machine and mine is a Mac)
Disconnected the Nav V
Turned on the Nav V
Was prompted that there are new routes and do I want to install them? Selected Yes
Routes installed very fast - less than 30 seconds
First route that contained Shaping Points installed as a single route (it had not done so prior to changing the WPs to SPs)
Upon opening the route I see only two WPs - first and last - as expected
Second route installed in two segments, as before.
Looking at the second route I see all of the WPs

My takeaways are:
First, that at least for a Nav V, changing the WPs to SPs will solve the over 29 WP problem.
Second, with a rout that has over 29 WPs you could always select, say every other one and change to a SP. That might be useful - or not.
Third, I have learned something new, thanks to you folks!
Fourth, Garmin is consistent and successful in it’s mission to confuse me.

Sorry to be long in the email, but hope it might make some sense.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards,

Dennis C. O'Dell
