Temperature guage readings vs. operating temperature

I too don't have the technical explanation as to why it behaves that way.
I'm pretty sure it's not an operating temperature problem but rather bad
scaling in either the temperature sensor or the instrument. The thermostat
begins to open at 80-84 dec. C and if 95 deg. C is exceeded, the fan kicks
in. So I guess that this range (80-95 deg. C) is the standard operating
temperature. On the instrument, from cold to some 85 deg C the needle moves
a couple om millimeters in the 'cold' range, but from 85 to 95 it moves
half the scale. Not very good. Knowing this, however' I guess it's a
peculiarity you can live with.
