Speaking of drinks, last September I promised Mai Tais to some of the Sheepranch gang. One of the rums is hard to come by in the best of times. It’s taken several months but I just got an email that one of my sources has found a few bottles and has them on the way. There will be Mai Tai’s for all. I’ll plan on having them ready before dinner on the first night for anyone interested.

This is as close to the original 1944 Trader Vic's recipe as is thought can be made with what rum is available today. It’s a Mai Tai made as God(Victor Bergeron)intended. It’s top shelf rum, or in this case two top shelf rums mixed to approach the flavor profile of the 17 year old Jamaican rum used in 1944, fresh lime juice, orange curaçao, and orgeat. That’s it. No bloody pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice, grenadine, blue, or nasty, cheap dark rum float.
