I'm definitely in the vacuum issue camp on this one. Either the tank vent or the fuel valve.

With all due respect to Herman's knowledge and skills, which are many, I have to disagree.

My brother Richard is a marine mechanic in California. He has a noted reputation for knowledge and quality work. I asked him about storing engines over the winter and he pointed me to Sea Foam where I had been using Sta-Bil previously.

However, he points out, Sea Foam is a preservative, not a cleaner. The marketing people would have you believe that it is but his recommendation is Techron<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chevronlubricants.com%2Fen_us%2Fhome%2Fproducts%2Ftechron-complete-fuel-system-cleaner.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C84d7e07a88214eb61fea08d81394f421%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637280877754916705&sdata=c%2B3VFhIeSFqNOxrAtRG3nXRMGu7h873GegrQ%2BzMHTbo%3D&reserved=0>. It will dissolve and clean the crap out of a carb quickly while Sea Foam might do something eventually. I have solved many a carburetor problem by simply using Techron in a couple of tanks of gas and just riding the bike. Certainly beats pulling the carbs and rebuilding them. In dirty carbs I generally use twice the concentration that the instructions recommend.

I have a case of each in my garage and use each for their specific purpose/

While I'm at it let me recite a favorite rant of mine. WD-40 is a Water Dispersant NOT a lubricant. Again, a great job by their marketing department! For a real light weight penetrating lubricant get CRC PowerLube<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.crcindustries.com%2Fproducts%2Fpower-lube-174-multi-purpose-lubricant-11-wt-oz-05006.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C84d7e07a88214eb61fea08d81394f421%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637280877754916705&sdata=e4KgfcxyBeh4w7V%2FeRlHQGm%2BnZcg8c%2FuNpO6Vz9yIag%3D&reserved=0>. It's industrial quality and available at most AutoZone or O'Reilly stores. It gets into tight spaces, frees up crud, and lubricates the parts. It's also safe for rubber parts although for that I generally use a silicon spray. They also make another version with a PTFE additive that I've tried but not found any particular advantage for motorcycle applications.

The right tool for the right job! But of course, your mileage may vary.

Hi--

my first step would be to try a generous amount of "SEAFOAM" in the fuel .
(Walmart has it at a decent price)

OR

Leak in the vacuum hose to fuel valve. Either way the tank should come off.

Bike (89) sat the winter with fuel and stabilizer in tank. Starts quick and runs well for a few then loses power as if no fuel. Roll the throttle and it regains and continues. Happens many times on a 20 mile trip. Rarely does it entirely quit, If so I can start quickly. No correlation between road condition (bumps), miles traveled or speed. Installed new CDI's to eliminate that as an issue. I ride daily to, hopefully, clear and clear.

Your help please.
